Can you tell us a bit about your organization?
Philadelphia Emerging Museum Professionals is a group for museum/arts related staff and enthusiasts living in the Greater Philadelphia area. A regional branch of the national Emerging Museum Professionals (EMP) with the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), we facilitate social and professional opportunities for those in their first decade of a museum career. Our goal is to to create a participatory organization of museum professionals who, through dialogue, community action and innovation, work together to shape the future of the museum field.
What benefits does your organization offer a young professional?
We offer the opportunity to join a participatory organization of emerging museum professionals who work together to shape the future of the museum field. We strive to promote dialogue, community action and innovation and to provide opportunities for networking and professional development.
What do you think young professionals will get out of the preview night?
Opportunities to meet other young professionals, especially across related fields, is very important! Making connections and beginning conversations with others is part of creating and maintaining a vibrant arts and culture sector in Philadelphia.
Do you think it’s important for young professionals to be involved in the local cultural scene?
Yes! Part of engaging with the museum field includes engaging in the local cultural scene by attending exhibitions and gallery openings, as well as other events that increase awareness and appreciation of art and culture.
