Marginality, as bell hooks wrote, is ‘more than a site of depravation… It is also the site of radical possibility, a space of resistance… It offers to one the possibility of radical perspective from which to see and create, to imagine alternatives, new worlds.’
Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg Campus invites artists from historically underrepresented groups, including but not limited to disabled artists, LGBTQ+ artists, BIPOC artists, and artists from other marginalized backgrounds, to submit artwork for the upcoming exhibition, Out in the Margins.
Artwork that critically engages with how location within the margin acts as a catalyst to envision a radical new world. Additionally, we encourage artwork that considers the aesthetic use of margins within artworks – how they can be a source of innovation, subversion, and unique perspectives that challenge conventional notions of beauty and composition.
