Artist Statement

I have always considered myself a sensitive person, in the midst of many circumstances as an immigrant, I understood the importance of enjoying and projecting each of my emotions, the cycles. I love high contrasts, I look for the balance between shapes and colors in an abstract or explicit way.

I connect with the space translating each image of mother nature, the strength of women, fauna and with our ancestors as a guide I create my own language that helps me better understand what surrounds me, influenced by my Latin roots.

Art has become my greatest strength and meaning for this path on this physical plane, and I hope that the observer finds a reason to be happy, another to analyze, find an answer or create his own story.

EVERYTHING CONNECTS.

Artist Biography

Edith Zapata was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1988. From a young age, she was drawn to movement and expression, taking aerobics and contemporary dance classes after school. Always questioning social norms, she found inspiration in her father’s detailed carpentry sketches and admired her brother’s ability to precisely recreate his favorite animated characters. Her love for visual expression was nurtured by her family—painting ceramics with her mother and sister, and observing her mother’s resourcefulness as she moved between hairdressing, baking, party planning, and sewing. Aware from early on of the need to work hard and pursue education to build a better future, Edith explored various vocational paths after high school. She first encountered graphic design software like Freehand, and adobe but soon realized that mastering tools alone was not enough—she was looking for a way to visually express her inner world. This led her to study Visual Communication, a turning point that connected her with influential artists and designers in Caracas and formed the foundation of her creative journey.

Throughout her career, Edith worked in diverse creative environments—newspaper editorial teams, print shops, as a documentary photographer for a musical band, and later in a creative studio where she gained confidence and experience managing large-scale projects. There, she found joy in guiding clients through the process of creating visual identities, producing printed materials, and crafting advertising imagery. Her passion for visual storytelling was fueled by her interests in photography, fashion, dance, and art, all of which she approached with curiosity and motion. In 2015, she earned her degree in Graphic Design with a specialization in Visual Communication, already backed by seven years of hands-on experience. Shortly after, she began working independently, developing large-format prints and visual content for clients and big and small businesses. In 2017, Edith emigrated from Venezuela—a transformative experience that gave her the space to reconnect with herself and explore a new cultural context. Drawing and painting became tools of introspection and self-expression. As her technique matured, she shifted focus from technical accuracy to authenticity and imagination, developing a unique visual language marked by her background in design: synthesis, composition, optical illusion, and symbolism. Her work has been exhibited in Bogotá, Philadelphia, and New York. She has created murals and developed conceptual commissions. In 2025, she curated her first group exhibition, “Coexistencia”, a project highlighting how artists from different nationalities coexist in a shared space, creating a unified voice rooted in their individual cultural backgrounds.

Today, Edith’s studio is located at Cherry Street Pier, Studio #14, where visitors can view her available paintings, commission a piece, exchange ideas, or simply engage in conversation.
