“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Thomas Merton
In Japan, there is a concept called “ikigai,” “iki” meaning life and “gai” translates to that which gives each one of us a purpose in life. I have deep respect for the Buddhist philosophy and its teachings on the themes of anitya/impermanence, dukkha/suffering and mudita/joy, which informs the subject matter represented in my work.
Photography and other creative modes of expression, all contribute to my satisfaction in my daily life’s practice of being an artist.
