Artist Statement
“‘No More Night’ emerged from my interest in the preservation of starlight. In addition to poor aesthetics, excessive energy use, and the disruption of ecosystems, studies have shown light pollution to have an adverse effect on our health and psychology. Like ‘No More Night’, much of my studio practice is an exploration of man’s intimate relationship and dependency on nature. I express these observations through sewn soft sculpture and installation. Yet, rather than create work that is pessimistic and disparaging, I highlight man’s intimate relationship and dependency through pieces that are whimsical, humorous, and engaging. ‘No More Night’ in particular, is a tongue and cheek illustration of an artificial light canopy in place of the stars.”
