Inspired by my passion for architecture and the landscape, my art is an emotional response to our changing surroundings. I begin each piece with a particular idea that compels me to explore the work in a nonrepresentational manner. Then I create templates of shapes, which allows me to explore color relationships, patterning, depth, and perspective. The exploratory process of adding layers and colors that finally defines each painting is the heart of the piece.
Painting in the abstract allows me to view the world through my passion of architecture, with no restraints in the creative process.
Artist Biography
The landscape of coastal Maine and Chester County, PA and a love of architecture are the primary influences in my work. These themes work their way through my art and are expanded by sea and land conservation, historic preservation, and various forms of transportation. Interest in art history has inspired me with artists such as Edward Hopper, Rockwell Kent, and the modernist movement, all of which influence my work.
I studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from West Chester University. I also studied Art History and Fine Arts abroad with Villanova and Rosemont Universities.
For twenty years I have instructed fine arts classes covering watercolor and oil painting, pastel and drawing, 3D design and architectural history to high school and adult students.
My work has been exhibited at various galleries throughout the Philadelphia region as well as New England and represented in private collections. Most recently in November participated in the GLAAD Exhibition and Auction.
