Of the seven artists featured in the newest InLiquid exhibition Intersections: Here/There, there is one that brought them all together. InLiquid member and Philly-based artist, Julianna Foster organized the exhibition to coalesce around the photographic processes that relate to mark-making, materiality, and experimentation using photography as source material.
Foster’s work clearly plays with these themes in the pieces that are included in the Intersections exhibition. Her work that is featured in the show breaks down the traditional ideas of “landscape photography,” and instead uses the land as an active material; one that can be cut, folded and layered to create work that plays with perspective, color, and with the viewer all at the same time. The piece Geographical Lore, desert map I call to mind the title of the exhibition, as the piece makes you wonder if you are looking at the “Here” or the “There,” and how such a print can make you feel both Here and There all at once.
After getting her BFA in Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts, Foster has shown in a number of local, national, and international galleries, in both solo and group shows. Foster currently works as an assistant professor at the University of the Arts and has been featured in a variety of shows, both locally and nationally.
To see Foster’s work in the metaphorical flesh, along with the six other exhibiting artists: Roxana Azar, Veronica Corzo-Duchardt, Julianna Foster, Krista Svalbonas, Millee Tibbs, Claire A. Warden and Jennah, InLiquid will be hosting the  Intersections: Here/There opening reception on February 14th from 6:00pm to 9:00 in the InLiquid Gallery.
