Young Friends Halloween Event: The Curse of Tutankhamun
Thursday, October 17, 6 pm The Penn Museum, 3260 South Street
Step 1: Ignore the advice of a local barfly. Step 2: Toss away the relic of protection that a random elderly woman gives to you. Ignore her advice, too. Step 3: Go into the abandoned building on the night of the full moon and steal the first sacred artifact you see.
Okay, so maybe the lecture by Dr. David Silverman, Curator, Egyptian Section at the Penn Museum isn’t exactly a how-to on how to get cursed in time for Halloween, but it will delve through layers of sand and years of history to the stories behind King Tut’s tomb. With a cash bar, fortune telling, and a flashlight tour of the Egyptian collection, just remember to keep that fine line drawn between reality and real terror. Cost: $10, $5 members.
Encore! An Eerie Evening of Opera, Theatre, Art, and Spirits
Thursday, October 17, 5 – 9 pm Resource Exchange, 2838 Cedar Street
The Resource Exchange is one part reuse center, one part haunted graveyard: where set designs from productions past linger on, waiting for the right person to come along and give them a good-old-fashioned Frankenstein revival. (Most likely with the assistance of an intern named Igor.)
Whether you’re a plague doctor or a superhero, if saving the world is your hobby then start crafting your false identity now. Square Peg will be supplying the beads, feathers, and hot glue guns. You supply the creativity. Cost: $8
