“…Because of the turmoil in my childhood, from violence to decay, I want to create my world of beauty and peace.”
The various shapes, colors, and repeating pattern of Cathleen Hughes’ works naturally coalesce on their large scales, echoing the harmony she wishes to bring to society through her work.
A staff muralist through Mural Arts, she has created over 150 murals within the last two decades, many of which are hands-on workshops. She is passionate about art education and its ability to unite individuals to create creative community.
“For me, teaching is to learn. It built my confidence and connected me with a way to learn more about others and the human experiences we all share,” states Hughes.
Hughes graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1979, where she felt pulled towards painting. She developed her concept and aesthetic through both intuition and developed formulas that speak to her interest in space, time, and matter.  Her canvases can be found internationally, in both private and corporate collections.
Cathleen Hughes’ work can be viewed and purchased on Artsy.
