The Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is a culturally diverse, multi-arts, non-profit organization that provides a forum for community, artists, and youth to transform creativity into vision. Our Education, Exhibitions, Artist Studios, and Presenting Programs cultivate leadership in an urban environment and stewardship of our natural resource — the Bronx River.

We are currently seeking panelists to help review applications for BRAC's Open Call for Independent Curator.

As a panelist, you will play a key role in shaping the future of this opportunity by evaluating proposals from a range of curatorial practitioners, from emerging to more established, who are eager to develop and present an original exhibition in collaboration with our institution.

Your expertise and judgment will help us identify a proposal that is innovative, culturally rich, and deeply resonates with our mission to foster a vibrant and diverse arts community.

The panel’s responsibilities will include:

Individually reviewing and scoring a pool of applications (typically 25–30 submissions).

Collaboratively participating in a final meeting or phone call to discuss top scoring proposals and select a finalist.

We aim to bring together a panel that reflects a range of perspectives, artists, curators, arts administrators, educators, and culture workers, and we particularly encourage those from underrepresented communities to apply.

Time Commitment:

Your participation will require a few hours of independent review (at your own pace) and a 1–2 hour final meeting (in person or over Zoom) to collectively determine the award recipient.

Compensation:

A small honorarium will be provided to all panel members in recognition of their time, expertise, and service.

If you’re interested in serving on the panel, please complete this form to tell us more about your background and availability.

Thank you for helping us foster innovative, culturally rich curatorial practice in our community!
