Creative Philadelphia and Rebuild announce a competition to commission site-specific, permanent, public artworks to be installed at Francis J. Myers Recreation Center. This public art commission is possible through the City’s Percent for Art program and is part of a major Rebuild construction project that will include interior and exterior upgrades, a new addition to the recreation center building, and outdoor site improvements.
This Percent for Art commission will provide an opportunity for an artist or a team of artists to create two complementary mosaic artworks. A prominent mosaic piece will be located on the exterior of the building’s new addition. A second piece will be placed at the center’s new interior entryway. There will be an optional Artist informational meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 6-7:30 p.m on Zoom. Download the Call for Artists for full details.
Project Highlights:
Budget: Up to $160,000 (inclusive of all project-related expenses)
Deadline for Submissions: July 17, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET
Scope: Two complementary mosaic installations—one on the building's exterior and another in the interior entryway
Community Engagement: Artists will collaborate with local residents to ensure the artworks reflect the community's identity and aspirations
Eligibility: Open to all artists, with priority given to BIPOC and women artists, as well as those with ties to the Kingsessing neighborhood
This is a two-phase competition:
Submission of Qualifications: Artists submit materials demonstrating their experience and suitability for the project.
Finalist Proposals: Four selected finalists will receive a $1,000 stipend to develop detailed design proposals.
