The Barbara Crawford Art Gallery is seeking guest curators and artists with thematic group exhibition concepts to add to our exhibition schedule and community. This Call for Curators is open to any artist(s) or curator with an art exhibition that may fit our mission, schedule, and space.
The Barbara Crawford Art Gallery is located on the campus of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia. The BCG Guest Curator Program hosts two externally curated exhibitions each year.  The goal of our exhibition roster is to inspire and encourage dialogue amongst all members of both the SCH and the surrounding community.
Currently on exhibit in the gallery is Chronic Creativity Art + Activism, which features the work of Jessie Jane Lewis (1947-2011), a Philadelphia artist, art therapist, and activist. Ms. Lewis created profound work focusing on artists with disabilities, the challenges they live with, and how they persevere to maintain their practice. The work in this exhibition (including protest posters, wheelchair paintings, plates, and more) documents her journey, and the journey of her body after MS began to claim her sight, her legs, and her muscles, but never her spirit. The show, curated by Melissa Haims, will run through January 26, 2023.
The deadline for submissions for the 2023 Spring show is Dec 1, 2022.
Contact mmonaghan@sch.org or call (215) 285-8914 for further inquiry.
