InLiquid at Art on Paper
This year at Art on Paper New York, InLiquid presents artwork by Mary Henderson and Sarah Zwerling, two longtime friends and Philadelphia artists whose works explore ideas of ephemerality and encourage intentional, detailed viewing.
We’ll be in booth E01 from September 4-7, come say hello as you make the rounds!
Henderson’s gouache portraits are painted with keen attention to detail and saturated color palettes, often imbued with notions of identity and collectivity. “Sleepover,” the series of Henderson's selected for Art on Paper is inspired by her daily life as the mother of an adolescent daughter, capturing the interests and tender moments of girlhood - summertime ice creams by the pool, backstage nerves at a ballet recital, under-cover giggles at a sleepover, and more. Her works are small, calling upon the viewer to look closely at each work.
Conversely, Zwerling’s works contain no people, but rather collaged images and photo-manipulations of plant life. Zwerling is inspired by the adaptation of plants and people to urban settings, and her pieces recall the fleeting experiences of noticing small details in the daily urban experience. Her high-resolution collages are meticulously crafted using digital tools to present seemless compositions of connected plants and trees, provoking the viewer to find new details and experience new aspects each time they see the work.
