Three Perspectives by Nancy Neill
Muse Gallery Philadelphia
52 N 2nd Street, Old City Philadelphia
November 4-29th
First Friday Reception: November 6th, 5-8pm
Please join me for an exhibition at Muse Gallery featuring paintings with pastel, collage and mylar. Although all are quite different from each other, they have a certain commonality. All of the materials are used in non-conventional ways, there is a high level of color or value contrast, and they are abstracts seeking to evoke feelings or thoughts.
The abstract color series explores the feelings and emotions generated by color. This series uses oil pastels, one of the most intense color mediums. This medium was created for Picasso in the 1940s.
The collage paintings reveal contrasting elements and show the struggle to find the balance between the various shapes. Most of the collages have strong lights and darks, and sometimes color, and contain a myriad of shapes. The Four Season Philadelphia purchased 5 of these works for their new Sky Garden floor and the Woodmere Art Museum has one in their permanent collection.
The urban landscape series uses mylar as the medium and evokes a strong sense of place in an urban setting. There is significant energy in the work from mark making and various scratching into the paint, plus there is strong black and white contrast.
The three series, while each different, relate to each other through their energy and uniqueness. These paintings stimulate the mind and are joyful, serene and full of energy.
