What happens when ten artists who need dedicated space are given it? Is there something about the power of place that puts all the resulting work in conversation with each other?
Da Vinci Art Alliance is proud to present the products of a year in our South Philly residency studio in “Cumulative Threads,” an exhibition that showcases the cohort of ten artists selected for DVAA’s 2025 Studio Residency.
In 2025, resident artists asked wide-ranging questions from “How can portraiture help process this experience?” to “How can electrical signals help us communicate with animals?” And in viewing both in conversation with one another, how can the DVAA Studio Residency program be created to support underrepresented artists from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages, and experience levels at pivotal stages in the development of their artistic practices?
Each Resident received one month of 24/7 studio access, support from the DVAA staff throughout their residency year, and a year of professional development opportunities alongside the rest of the Fellowship and Residency Cohort.
“Even though I've lived in Philadelphia for several years, while I was in residence I found myself exploring the city in new ways,” said Madeleine Conover regarding her July residency at DVAA, “and I enjoyed meeting new folks at/through DVAA.”
