Kathleen Greco, Purple Carnations

Flower Petal Pigment 20" x 14", 2026

May 7—June 6, 2026:  COLOR FIELDS

Reception May 14, 6pm-9pm
Box Spring Gallery, 1400 N American Street, Suite 100C, Philadelphia, PA 19122

Color Fields presents artwork from tInLiquid member Kathleen Greco and artist Joye Schwartz in a perfect-for-May shared celebration of flowers and colors, with complementary representations. If we can’t save the ephemeral from disappearing, can we save its essence? With that said, the life of a flower is a life short lived. In Color Fields, Greco presents flower petal pigment color field paintings that link the past to the present, while Schwartz captures a flower’s essence in a portrait. Kathleen Greco experiments with the concept of extending and documenting the lives of flowers by using their petal stains and pigments as a colorful medium appropriately called In Lieu of Flowers. These Rothko-like artworks exist in place of the flowers they are derived from exploring transition, fragility, and permanence beyond their original form. Experience the power of flowers!

Greco’s artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries including the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C., Hayward Gallery, London, England, Woodmere Art Museum, Pennsylvania, Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, Germany, and Schlossmuseum, Linz, Austria. Her work has been featured in Artillery, Hyperallergic, and the Washington Post. Her sculpture was included in the collaborative Crochet Coral Reef Pod World’s installation in Getty’s PST ART: Art and Science Collide exhibition 2025 and in the 2019 Venice Biennale’s Central Pavilion, May You Live in Interesting Times, Venice, Italy.

Intoxicated by the colors in nature, Joye Schwartz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Schwartz has been actively involved in community art activities and was the founder of Arts in the Park Festival in Elkins Park, PA. Her artwork has been exhibited in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Artworks by Ms. Schwartz are included in private collections in the US, including recently the private collection of Ronald Lauder, Israel and Australia.
