2023 Wind Fellow Spotlight: Meg Wolensky

Meg Wolensky is a painter who uses bold colors and objects to visually process the complex nature of memory, identity, and formation of self. Wolensky takes a profoundly personal approach to figurative and still life painting, which are treated as snapshots within the framework of Wolensky’s life narrative. As a result, their paintings carry an emotional charge, conveying the anxiety, pain, hope, and freedom within experiences of relationships, sexual identity, personal trauma, and global upheaval. Rubbing against Barthes’ 20th-century concept of “Death of the Author”, Wolensky’s history and story are fundamental to their work’s meaning.

Primal III: The Sacred Triangle

Primal Disposition returns as “Primal III: The Sacred Triangle”. This show aims to highlight the mystical relationship between numbers and patterns within works of art. In the laws of form, a third line is necessary to create the first interconnected shape beyond the circle. Works do not have to exclusively involve triangles but could/should be invocative of the principles and powers of 3. This could include religious motifs, ancient relics, sacred geometry and symbolism, hidden meanings, the Trinity, dark arts, works that are triptychs, and exploration of three-dimensional work that may challenge the perspective of audiences.

Call to Artists: Collage Magic Artist Residency

Apply to be a part of Kolaj Institute's five-day, in-person collage artist residency in New Orleans in which artists will explore contemporary art that references magic, altar making, and ritual practice and take a walking tour of New Orleans and explore the city as an archive of magic.

2023 Foundwork Artist Prize: $10,000 Juried Grant with Studio Visits and Interview

The Foundwork Artist Prize is an annual juried grant awarded to recognize outstanding practices by emerging and mid-career artists working in any media. The 2023 honoree will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant and studio visits with each of the distinguished jurors. In addition, the honoree and three shortlisted artists will be invited for interviews as part of the Foundwork Dialogues program to further public engagement with their practices.
