From the artist, RM Cimini:

"This exhibition brings together twelve abstract paintings that explore painting as spiritual inquiry. Through layered oil glazing over acrylic underpainting, I investigate how sustained attention—the kind cultivated through decades of meditation practice—transforms both perception and the act of painting itself.

The work includes pieces inspired by fifteen years photographing water gardens (watching how light transforms underwater botanical forms), paintings exploring intense natural phenomena (fire, spring's explosive energy, seasonal transitions), and investigations into synesthesia and how color can become sound.

About the Work:

The paintings range from intimate 20x20-inch studies to monumental 48x60-inch pieces. Each builds through multiple layers, creating depths that require weeks or months to complete. I burnish, score, sand back, and build up again—a process that mirrors meditation practice, requiring patience, presence, and willingness to be surprised.

As I write in my artist statement: "I seek spirit not by turning away from the physical world but by looking more deeply into it. Through decades of meditation practice, I've learned that pure, undivided attention reveals the sacred hidden within the ordinary."

About the Artist:

I'm a Delaware-based abstract painter with an MFA from Bennington College. I served as President of Studio Montclair from 2016-2019 and am a member of the National Association of Women Artists. My work is held in permanent collections including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Atlantic Health Systems, and MC Hotel. I write regularly for The Huffington Post and Sivana Spirit on art, meditation, and consciousness.

Philadelphia/Regional Connection:

While I maintain my studio in Delaware, I have deep connections to the Philadelphia arts community through exhibitions, collectors, and my ongoing relationship with regional arts organizations. This exhibition at Neumann University represents an important opportunity to share this body of work with the Delaware Valley arts community.

The opening reception on Valentine's Day weekend (Saturday, February 14, 2-4 PM) offers a beautiful opportunity to celebrate art, nature, and mindful attention."
