Exhibits & Events

Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Piece by Piece, featuring constructed paintings, collages and sculptures by Charles Kalick, James Rapone and Kathleen Studebaker.

Kalick’s rich textural paintings, rooted in the grid, border on sculpture. His heavily-worked wood surfaces are manipulated through carving and thick layers of paint. The shifting linear patterns created are reminiscent of primitive textile design and architecture.

Rapone begins his collages without a specific intention, starting with a blank sheet and scraps of paper. While his main interests are composition, color and line, perceptual space may emerge as well as evocative snippets of information from the component papers. He hopes to draw the viewer in, revealing something of the magic of human experience.

Studebaker is a multi-media sculptor working in a variety of materials including wood, metal and plastic. With a love of detailed fabrication and problem-solving, she makes every element of her sculptures by hand. Her work often references the far-flung future, or perhaps alternate realities, and is inspired by astronomy, narrative fantasy, and the intersection of digital technology with mechanical function.

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 30, 2 - 5pm
