On view for the month of March are select works by Dolores Poacelli. Poacelli’s paintings have at their core a playful focus on the interactions of color, shape, texture, space, and tension. Melding the abstract, non- representative, and illustrations to achieve an enjoyable while contemplative device. The compositions navigate the relationship between these aspects in concurrence with one another to present such unique visual excursions. And yet the artist embraces spontaneity fully, sometimes developing a project from sudden new intentions after laborious preparations, even revisiting a piece for a new direction. Simplicity, instinct and indecision are as essential ingredients as the patterns and paints within these compositions. Texturally rich segments entwine with swatches of flat color fields, sometimes muted sometimes vibrant. The stillness of open space coexists with activated gestural lines and a harmony of emotions and concepts are achieved to deliver such depth to these contemporary compositions.
