Who: Jean Plough, grounded figure and Philadelphia painter
What: exhibition of celebratory abstract paintings
Why: to explore the figure/ground relationship and express joy
Where: Muse Gallery, 52 N 2nd Street, Philadelphia PA
About the Work: I look at and portray celebratory and positive figure/ground relationships like those at the Avenue of the Arts Block Party June 21, and Wawa Hoagie Day, June 26. Using the felt sense, positive experiences are stored in the body, and emerge in gesture and dynamic juxtaposition on a canvas. The paintings involve puzzles; figures in landscape, and landscape in figures. Space becomes figure, and figure becomes space. The figure/ground relationship becomes blurred.
