Exhibits & Events

InLiquid presents paintings by artist member Chris Cox at The Courtyard by Marriott in the Navy Yard. Cox’s oil paintings are inspired by the aging stone in eroding walls, buildings and other structures. She sees things in the stone surface – an abstract landscape, an atmosphere, other worlds – and imagines the destruction the stone surface has experienced from years of exposure to the changing environment. Cox works with oil on canvas, using primarily oil sticks, palette knives, scrapers and any tools that provide the desired texture. She views these paintings as peaceful and otherworldly with a sense of mystery, and her work resonates with the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, which celebrates the beauty in imperfection and the acceptance of the decay that time, weather, and nature leave behind.
Cox is represented by Bluestone Fine Art Gallery in Old City, a member of Tri-State Artist Equity, and a Professional Artist Member at Main Line Art Center. Her paintings are in private collections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Michigan. She also has had many paintings in juried shows, including Main Line Art Center, the Delaware Contemporary, Lancaster County Art Association, Tri State Artist Equity, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists, Abington Art Center, Art of the State (2015), Invitational Exhibit at the Art Association of Harrisburg (2014), Philadelphia Sketch Club and Woodmere Art Museum. Cox received a Juror’s Award at the Main Line Art Center’s 2015 Spring Gala Exhibition and an Honorable Mention Award in 2013 at PAFA’s Juried CE Student Exhibition.
