Exhibits & Events

Chance Encounter encompasses a collection of artists and artwork that embody a spirit of spontaneity, celebrating the unexpected. This element of fortuitous surprise manifests in the unusual ready-made materials and forms presented in this exhibition. In the right hands, paper pinwheels, broken glass, and wooden ladders transcend their associated references becoming wholly new creations. Artists Megan T. Biddle, Keith R. Breitfeller, Annette Cords, Peter Cunicelli, Kevin B. Huang, Jacque Liu, Sarah Kate Burgess, Rick Salafia, and Diane Szczepaniak each find unique ways to manipulate Light, Form, and Color to inspire small moments of wonder. Join us for the closing reception on August 13th, from 6-8 PM, starting in the North Tower.

In response to the three linked galleries at Park Towne Place, Museum District Residences, Chance Encounter is an exhibition in three parts: Light, Form, and Color. Each site illustrates a different formal aspect inherent in this collection of work. South Tower Gallery explores the influences of Light found in the assembled artworks, most notably featuring the glass installation of Kevin B. Huang. The reflections of his cast glass objects highlight the changing sunlight as it moves through space. North Tower Gallery exemplifies the range of sculptural objects found in this exhibition. Their recognizable Forms explore scale and material as a means of relating to the viewer. Rick Salafia’s monumental ladder construction juxtaposes Jacque Liu’s delicate installation of paper pinwheels on its opposite wall. West Tower Gallery embodies Color given shape in the vibrant hues of Keith R. Breitfeller, Annette Cords, and Peter Cunicelli. Whether with oil paint, stoneware, or wire mesh these artists utilize intense color to instill a sense of playful exploration in their work.
