Bread & Salt explores the role of food in human relationships and invites artists to consider food not simply as subject matter, but as a lens through which we understand memory, culture, identity, care, migration, ritual, labor, belonging, and community.
We are interested in work that explores questions such as:How does food function as a form of communication, control, memory, or care? What does it reveal about power, intimacy, or belonging? Where does it connect us, and where does it divide us?
Submissions may be literal or abstract, narrative or conceptual, celebratory or critical. We welcome interpretations that are personal, unexpected, and unresolved. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply. We are seeking artwork, photography, sculpture, installation, mixed media, writing, recipes, objects, and other creative works that engage with the theme.
As part of this larger initiative, Bread & Salt also includes three interconnected community programs:
🎨 Bread & Salt Exhibition (August 1–October 4)A multidisciplinary exhibition featuring artwork, writing, photography, recipes, and objects exploring the stories food carries.
🍲 Breaking Bread Community Potluck (August 14)A public gathering where neighbors share dishes, traditions, and personal stories.
📖 The Lansdowne Community CookbookA lasting community archive featuring recipes, memories, and food traditions collected throughout the project.
