Artist Biography

Jack Knight was born in Welland, Ontario, Canada and grew up in western New York. He graduated from Buffalo State College with a BS Degree in Art Education and New York State Teaching Certification. With a scholarship from the Buffalo Foundation, he attended the Graduate School of Art at State University of New York at Buffalo and received a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting in 1976. When he lived in Massachusetts, he was a member of the artist cooperative Kingston Gallery in Boston. Later, he was an active member in the artist run gallery 3rd Street Gallery, Philadelphia.
Jack has more than 100 exhibits, including 15 solo exhibits. His work has been exhibited in several group shows including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; Riverfront Design Center, St. Louis, MO; The Noyes Museum, Oceanville, NJ; Fraser Gallery, Washington, DC; Le Cadre Gallery, Toronto, Ontario; and CERES Gallery and Avanti Galleries, New York, NY. Prior solo exhibits include the Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA; Schenectady Museum, Schenectady, NY; Southern Vermont Center for the Arts, Manchester, VT; Trenton City Museum, Trenton, NJ; and 3rd Street Gallery, Philadelphia, PA.
Jack has received numerous awards for his artwork and is represented in several corporate, museum and private collections including the Bank of Boston, Pennsylvania Bank & Trust, Milton Bradley Company, Ernst & Young, Occidental Chemical, Springfield Newspapers, Charles Burchfield Center, Schenectady Museum and the Southern Vermont Art Center.
He has also been an adjunct art instructor with Empire State College and Niagara County Community College in New York, as well as at Rutgers-Camden Campus, Burlington, Camden and Gloucester County Colleges in South Jersey. In 2003, Jack was a visiting artist at the National Academy of Design in New York, which included a lecture and slide presentation of his constructions from the past ten years.
Jack had a dual career both in the arts as well as the railroad industry. Jack worked 20 years with Conrail’s Engineering Department and 12 years with Amtrak. In 2009, he retired as a Senior Contract Agent in the Procurement Department at Amtrak’s 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.
In 2010 he relocated to Delaware with his wife Darlene, where his studio and residence are located in Long Neck, DE. His son Christopher lives in New Jersey.
