Scott Holford (Golden Key Prints) advises us to “use this mandatory downtime to do something for yourself, if possible.” One thing he’s doing for himself is a daily drawing challenge from “Most Known Unknown Philadelphia” on Instagram.
During his self-quarantine, Scott has drawn the Four Horses of the Apocalypse (for ANCIENT), the word “WILD” drawn using different textures he practices for creating his etchings, and the Philly Phanatic falling asleep to Netflix (for SPORTS), to name a few.
Scott says that this daily challenge “has enabled me to get active in making again, challenge me to push from my comfort zone, and keep my skills from getting too rusty.” These recent drawings combine the mystical and whimsical with the occasional glimpse of dark humor.
Even though the self-quarantine is hard, the silver lining has been that it has “been beneficial in getting me to work consistently again.”
Besides drawing, Scott has been watching the new season of “Westworld”, the HBO hit that explores the concept of Artificial Intelligence and the essence of humanness; and “Dave”, the new show starring Philly suburb-native rapper/comedian Lil Dicky. These shows are on “opposite but equally important ends of the spectrum.”
We all have our ways of making sure we’re washing our hands for 20 seconds to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but Scott puts all of us to shame with his dedication. He says, “when I get down to my next layer of skin, and the bone just begins to become exposed then I know I’m done.”
