InLiquid Artist Jen McCleary is creating an online, interactive Photoshop project with the hopes of making people smile and creating online interactions with others.
What are you doing to stay sane during this time?
I just started a Photoshop project called The Adventures of Pipa Parrot. Everyone is stuck at home but my parrot Pipa is (virtually) traveling the world. I’ve asked people to suggest her next destination and I plan to add one per day for the duration of the quarantine. I thought of this idea after I posted a photo of Pipa eating a tiny pie I made for her on Facebook and it got a lot more likes and comments than I expected. I wanted to do a fun little project that involves interaction with others online and hopefully bringing a smile to their day!
Do you have any advice for others?
Find small things that give you joy and pleasure every day! Think about how you can turn this situation into a positive for yourself. Stop obsessively refreshing the news on your phone (I’m still struggling with this one!)
What’s your trick to making sure you wash your hands for 20 seconds?
I just count- I realized the other day that I do it without thinking about it now. I actually count to 30 because I probably count too fast.
Do you have any TV or movie recommendations?
I’m just about to re-read Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Just finished book 2 of the Three-Body Problem trilogy by Cixin Liu–really interesting sci-fi from China. I just finished season 3 of Babylon Berlin on Netflix and loved it. Currently watching season 2 of Kingdom–a historical Korean zombie thriller–possibly not the best choice to watch during a pandemic though!
Tell us about your usual studio practices!
I already worked from home and have a home studio. Maybe I have a little more time since everything else I do for fun has been canceled.
