Brenna K. Murphy is an InLiquid visual artist with an extensive body of multimedia work. Throughout her diverse portfolio, one can draw a peculiar, material thread of commonality – a strand of the artist’s hair. Murphy uses hair as a visual tool of self-exploration, shaping it into recognizable and abstract forms from her life on paper and in photography.
Most recently, Murphy worked with Philadelphia-based fashion designer Sarah Van Aken for an installation at The Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design. The collaboration is the fifth and final installment of Moore’s DesignLab series, a project that pairs area fashion designers with local artists. Van Aken and Murphy comment, “This installation is an exploration of process – the process of textiles and garment creation, the process of creating one’s sense of style, and, ultimately, how these processes affect a woman’s sense of self and understanding of her own body.”
The installation can be viewed 24/7 through March 15 at the window of the InSights gallery at Moore College of Art and Design on the corner of 20th St. and Race St. A closing reception will be held on March 15 at 7:30 pm. More information can be found at thegalleriesatmoore.org.
Finally, InLiquid is pleased to announce that Brenna K. Murphy will be the featured “InLiquid at the Bride” exhibiting artist for the month of April! Check back at inliquid.org for further information concerning opening reception dates and times.
