About the Exhibition

Opening reception: First Friday, April 4, 6 - 9:30 pm

There Will Be Animals starring Tory Franklin, Alan Prazniak and K-Fai Steele is the must see show of the year and possibly Oscar worthy. These three artists were chosen from the recently curated Bambi Biennial show, the ladies of art-magnifique, Libby Rosof and Roberta Fallon were the jurors.

Tory Franklin is a quirky gal fond with the Victorian era. She uses paper, silkscreen, crayons etc to create sets adorned with elements of fairy tale and horror. Think of the wolf from little red riding hood eats Anne Oakley and then makes a really fancy ornate dress for her funeral that would make Yves Saint Laurent choke on the olive in his cocktail. Mon Dieu!

K-Fai Steele is “The” cat lady. She draws self portrait ‘s interacting with each other by using gesture to suggest their own interior dialogue derived from Shakespearean themes and Renaissance art. These Chinese watercolors with ink will make you want to pet every cat from Rome to Hong Kong to New York to Istanbul and back to Fishtown.

Alan Prazniak recently graduated from Tyler School of Art and Bambi is happy to show this young buck’s emerging body of charcoals and paintings. Although, Alan is not so big in stature, he draws at least twice his height. As a painter he recognizes that his Icons and symbols are a reflection of his own identity and has been quoted as saying, “…being confronted with that invention is terrifying."
