About the Exhibition

Kelly & Weber Fine Art are pleased to announce the opening
exhibit of its 2008-2009 season, Making It From Here To
There, by
sculptor Mike Stifel. This is Stifel’s second solo exhibition
at K&W.
Stifel’s new work is influenced by building techniques
used for such things as planes, boats, and dog sleds as well
as the inhospitable places that these modes of transportation
have taken people. Navigational techniques are also a source
of inspiration for this body of work, referencing subjects
as magnetic poles, rotational poles, and the use of stars
to find one’s place on the globe. All of these things
are the product of a vast gathering of knowledge and experience
from different peoples that reaches back to the past, and
continues into the future. “When you run out of options
you must figure out where you are, and then you must know
how to get to where you want to be.”
About the Gallery
201 Gallery is a member of the East Girard Arts District,
which holds openings on the second Thursday of every month.
