Artist Statement
I am a scavenger—and like any “hunter”, I use my senses and my imagination. I hunt in the environs of where I live—in my neighborhood, at vacation spots, and where I work. It means that my artwork is for the curious and the obsessive. It is art best explained as being made by a compulsive multi-tasker. It is representational, abstracted, and conceptual. It combines painting, craftwork, printing, collaging, even sculpture. It is filled with a lot of stuff. Most of my ideas come to me while walking around. I’ll see or hear something and it will glow in my brain. It will make me ask “What?”, or “How?”, or “Why?” I’ll make up word games on it or try to find it in other media—in books or songs or stories. It seems very mysterious, but simply put, it is recycling; namely, the framing of found and disposed objects, experiences, and stories into a collection that has a story of its own. That is, if you are curious enough to wonder as your eye wanders. |
